For more than 60 years, the Joint Radio Company (JRC) had been supporting and advising the energy sector on the critical operational telecoms systems needed to keep electricity and gas flowing throughout the UK, as well as managing the radio frequency spectrum underpinning these telecoms systems.
In 2026, this legacy industry-owned organisation needed to rebrand and reposition itself as an accessible centre of expertise on energy sector telecoms, in the face of transformational changes to UK energy networks with the proliferation of low-carbon energy sources. Coordinating and controlling these networks to balance supply and demand across the UK requires extremely sophisticated telecoms infrastructure, and JRC needed to rise to the challenge of supporting the industry through this period of unprecedented change.
I worked alongside the team at
Ledgard Jepson to develop a new identity, brand narrative, tone of voice and key messages for JRC to help raise its profile and support its increasingly prominent role in the UK energy sector. Through interviews with the team at JRC, I developed an understanding of this membership organisation and its role working with both energy companies and government within an extremely technical and complex sector. This enabled me to develop all of the necessary written brand assets through a process of continuous collaboration, review and refinement. Following this process, I adapted the brand narrative and associated messaging into content for a fully redesigned new website. I also wrote social media content to support the launch of the new brand.
The new name, Energy Connect, brand and website were successfully launched on schedule to much acclaim from the industry.
